Calibration

Polimaster Europe UAB Calibration Laboratory provides comprehensive calibration services for radiation measuring equipment, ensuring that they meet the highest industry standards for accuracy and reliability. Calibration Laboratory is accredited in accordance with the LST EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 (LA NAB accreditation certificate No. LA.225-02). This ensures that your instruments are calibrated to meet regulatory and safety requirements for critical sectors such as healthcare, nuclear energy, and industrial safety.

Why calibration is important?

Calibrating your equipment regularly is a critical part of ensuring your instrument is still functioning correctly. You also must have many medical and radiation devices calibrated regularly to be compliant with the Regulatory Bodies governing your area. Ensuring your equipment measures correctly is essential to your job performance, your facility, and the people who trust you to provide adequate medical care.

FAQ

What devices can we calibrate?

Polimaster Europe UAB Calibration Laboratory offers calibration for a broad range of radiation detection instruments, including:
- Personal radiation dosimeters
- Ambient dosimeters and dosimeters-radiometers
- Surface contamination monitors
- Dosimeters of air kerma rate
- Spherical ionization chambers for radiation protection measurements
You can find the full scope of accreditation in our Accreditation Certificate.

What is calibration?

Calibration is an operation that, under specified conditions, in the first step, establishes a relation between the quantity values with measurement uncertainties provided by measurement standards and corresponding indications with associated measurement uncertainties and, in the second step, uses this information to establish a relation for obtaining a measurement result from an indication (JCGM-WG2:VIM-2023-01). To put it simply, calibration is the process of comparing a device to a reference standard with a known value. This ensures that your device is accurate and reliable, providing precise measurements for critical applications such as radiation monitoring.
NOTE 1 A calibration may be expressed by a statement, calibration function, calibration diagram, calibration curve, or calibration table. In some cases, it may consist of an additive or multiplicative correction of the indication with associated measurement uncertainty.
NOTE 2 Calibration should not be confused with adjustment of a measuring system, often mistakenly called “self-calibration”, nor with verification of calibration.

Does my radiation measuring device require calibration?

Yes, if your device is used in industries such as nuclear energy, healthcare, or occupational safety, regular calibration is often required to comply with regulatory standards and ensure accurate measurements.

What is the difference between factory calibration and ISO 17025 calibration?

Factory calibration is typically traceable but may not offer the same level of assurance as ISO 17025 calibration. ISO 17025-accredited calibration provides the highest guarantee of accuracy and traceability, crucial for critical applications. Factory calibration is usually sufficient for routine applications but not for safety-critical or regulatory requirements.

What does a calibration certificate include?

A calibration certificate provides detailed information about the device calibrated, the calibration process, measurement uncertainties, and the environmental and other noticeable conditions during calibration. This document ensures traceability and can be used as proof of compliance with industry standards.

Do I need a calibration certificate?

In most cases, a calibration certificate is crucial for regulatory compliance, and in some cases, it is mandatory - if the laboratory carries out its activities within the framework of which the fundamental point is to obtain reliable and accurate measurement results that are traceable to primary standards that reproduce the size of the corresponding physical quantities). It guarantees that calibrations have been performed according to standards and provides traceability. The certificate is recognized internationally under agreements like EA (European Cooperation for Accreditation) and ILAC MRA (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation – Mutual Recognition Arrangement).

How do I determine the calibration range for my device?

The calibration range depends on the device's usage and the type of radiation measured. The calibration process compares the device’s reading with the conventional quantities’ values, which are reproduced with the standards of an accredited calibration laboratory, assigning a calibration coefficient recorded on the certificate.

How are calibration points determined?

Calibration points are based on several factors including instrument usage, accuracy requirements, regulatory standards, and manufacturer specifications. Multi-point calibration ensures the instrument performs accurately across its operating range.
